MISSION:
To empower impoverished people to succeed, by embracing and enhancing
an individual's skills and abilities.
DISCRIPTION:
Fashion. Love, Africa designs and purchases hand woven bags
constructed from post consumer products, gathered and woven by female
residents living in the garbage slum in Nakuru, Kenya. Rape and abuse
is rampant in the slum and this opportunity allows the women a much
needed purpose, sense of self worth and steady source of income.
After profits from the sale of each bag, $10.00 USD is set aside to
purchase a piece of land for the relocation of an estimated 25
families from the slum.
Different from other fair trade or locally made goods, these bags are
made in tandem with the design vision of founder Ryan Clements who
works with the craftswoman to ensure that the design of the bags will
appeal to the taste of the western fashion world. The goal for the
company moving forward is to expand to different parts of the world
where other groups of people can become empowered by using their own
skills to pull themselves from extreme poverty.
